ECU Residence Hall Student Pledge
We were all worried that ECU would not be open for in-person classes and that another pivotal life experience might also be delayed. However, we are here! Realize that the future of ECU staying open for in-person learning lies within our hands.
The Chancellor has made numerous decisions and taken unpopular, but necessary steps to try and keep the entire campus community safe. One of these includes, no non-residence hall guests may enter any residence hall.
We all need to accept FULL responsibility for doing our part to keep ourselves, as well as others, safe from COVID-19. Know that, as a student, how you conduct yourself, handle situations with others, and make decisions daily not only impact yourself, but others as well. As a campus, we should choose to end the non-caring, “can’t touch me” mindset and instead believe that the “stop the spread and save lives” route is the best to combat COVID-19.
Know that your cooperation in our campus’ efforts are crucial to the longevity of the on-campus experience that we all cherish. ECU Campus Living asks that you take the pledge to do your part in keeping our campus safe.
I pledge to keep my life, others’ lives, and the well-being of the ECU community, especially my residence hall family, safe by abiding by and promoting the following:
- I will wash my hands frequently and thoroughly.
- I will wear my mask when I am in public areas, including when walking on campus or riding on a bus. This shows that I care about others.
- I will strive to stay 6 feet away from others whenever possible.
- I will not escort non-resident guests into ECU residence halls.
- I will immediately inform a residence hall staff member or go to Student Health Services if I feel ill or find out that I’ve been exposed to someone who has been diagnosed with COVID-19.
- I will do my best to challenge my peers to make wise decisions if I see careless choices being made.
- I will contact my RA or Coordinator if I become aware of something or someone within the community which jeopardizes the well-being of others.
- I will regularly attend classes and I will sanitize my desk and chair before sitting down during in-person classes and will strive to do my best academically.
- I will show others respect, grace, and patience since I won’t be privy to their full life situation.
- I firmly and wholeheartedly choose to be a part of the solution, rather than to be a part of the problem while living on campus.
