Directors of Housing Operations and Residence Life
Interim Director of Housing Operations
Gretchen has served for over 25 years in a variety of roles within Student Housing, over 20 of those with ECU Campus Living. She received degrees from Michigan State University and the University of Florida, and has contributed to the student development profession in multiple leadership, service, and mentoring roles. Originally from Michigan, Gretchen enjoys spending time with her family, running, listening to podcasts, and traveling. Two favorite spots to spend free time are Walt Disney World and the beach.
Carolyn “Waz” Miller
Director of Residence Life
Waz started at ECU in 1994, after working at the University of San Francisco, Loyola University-New Orleans and Western Illinois University. She has been very active in ACUHO-I, (Association of College University Housing Officers-International), and served as the Chair of the Program Committee and the STARS Committee. Waz enjoys creating communities and programs which are inclusive and welcoming. She has a strong interest in mental health issues and crisis management and finds a lot of joy in working with LLCs as well hall governments and RHA. She is originally from New York, but, grew up in Wisconsin and enjoys spending time with family and friends, being outdoors, and going to the beach. She loves shelties, emerald green and reliving her college years, one of the best times of her life, through the new first year students!
Administrative Associate for Residence Life
Emily joined Campus Living in the summer of 2022, having spent 4 years as a student employee in the department. She is a recent graduate of the university and a native of Eastern North Carolina, being from Rocky Mount. She works closely with Residence Life and has a passion for helping others in any way she can. In her free time, she enjoys watching any crime-action tv series, cooking, and soaking up the sun at North Topsail Beach (NC).
Associate Director for Residence Life for Student Conduct
Dana joined the ECU Residence Life family in the summer of 2014. As a first generation graduate, she is a strong proponent of community connection and support. Dana comes to us from northwest Pennsylvania, and while she misses the fall leaves, she does not miss snow. During the day, Dana assists in student (and community) development, learning, and accountability. When not at work, she enjoys spending time with her husband, son, two children, and forever puppy; being outdoors; and getting lost in a good book.
Associate Director of Academic Initiatives, Assessment, and Student Success
Dr. Peele joined the ECU Residence Life family in the summer of 2023, after serving in other capacities at the university since 2022. She is natively from Raleigh, North Carolina, but has lived all across the state. She completed a BA in Sociology from Fayetteville State University, a MEd in Student Personnel Administration in Higher Education from University of North Carolina Greensboro, and an EdD in Educational Leadership from Fayetteville State University. Her passion and research focuses are supporting underrepresented students and creating avenues for change in the areas of student access and success. When not at work, she enjoys spending time with her husband and children, traveling, and getting to serve the community with her sorority.
Assistant Director for Residence Life for Programming, Leadership, and Selection
Bailey started at East Carolina University in the summer of 2015. Her love for student and leadership development has accelerated working with the students at East Carolina University. She is passionate about creative programming, living learning communities, and personal growth. When she is not working, she can be seen walking her dog, Winston, or scootering around campus!
Interim Assistant Director for Residence Life for Programming, Leadership, and Selection
Angelina started at ECU in the summer of 2019, having spent 6 years as a student affairs educator throughout her undergraduate, graduate, and full time professional career. Born in Poland, but raised in Chicago, she enjoys spending time with her dog Cubby, listening to podcasts, and watching Law and Order. You will often see her and Cubby walking around campus meeting residents!
Assistant Director of Residence Life for Learning/ Thematic Communities
Chase started at ECU in the summer of 2018, having moved here from Gainesville, Florida, where he was for the previous 6 years while earning his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the University of Florida. Chase started his career in college housing and residence life in the Fall of 2012 as a Resident Advisor, worked his way up to being a Graduate Hall Director, to a Hall Coordinator, to now serving as the Assistant Director for Residence Life for Learning/Thematic Communities. He is passionate about diversity and inclusion, supporting students in crisis, and providing residents with the best possible on-campus experience as they transition into this new and exciting stage of their lives. You will likely see him walking to meetings around campus, enjoying coffee at the Starbucks in the Main Campus Student Center, or walking his dog, Charlie, around campus.
Housing Systems Manager
Lisa manages the on-campus student database and software system, assists with the housing assignments process, and helps troubleshoot website and housing contract issues. She has been with the department since 2013. In spare time, she enjoys traveling, true crime documentaries, and outdoor activities with her family and dog.
Associate Director of Campus Living Off-Campus Students & Hospitality Services
Brandy Alexander-Daniels is the Associate Director of Campus Living Off-Campus Students and Hospitality Services. She’s received her undergraduate degree from East Carolina University, and her Master’s Degree from North Carolina State University. Brandy returned to work at ECU in the Spring of 2014. Prior to that she worked at Vidant Medical Center with college students. Brandy has served in roles of being a student Resident Advisor, Hall Director, Assistant Director, and now an Associate Director. Originally from Hobgood, NC she enjoys spending time with her family, cooking, being involved in local community engagement, and mentoring young adults! You will often see her in the drive-thru at Starbucks!
Kim started at ECU in the summer of 2023 and serves on the housing assignments team assisting with the processing of on-campus student room assignments. Prior to coming to ECU she worked at Florida SouthWestern State College for 14 years in various roles in Student Affairs and Auxiliary Services. A Florida native and University of Florida graduate, Kim enjoys traveling with her family, baking, and scrapbooking in her free time.
Public Communications Specialist
Steven is a two-time graduate of East Carolina University, with both a Bachelor’s and Master’s in Business Administration from the College of Business, with an undergraduate concentration and graduate certificate in Marketing. He was born in Greenville, raised mostly in Hertford County, and has been in the Eastern North Carolina area for all his life. He is excited to continue to engage with the Greenville and university community!
Assistant Director for Youth Programs & Special Populations
Omari started at ECU in the Spring of 2021 after receiving his Master’s Degree in Sport Management from Wingate University. He started out as the Gear Up Success Coach for a special population of freshmen. He is from Greensboro, NC and enjoys working out, watching anime, collecting vinyl records, and thrifting. He loves supporting students in any way he can, so don’t hesitate to say “hey!”

Ballard Area Coordinator
Annika started at ECU as a Residence Hall Coordinator in the summer of 2021. She received her Master’s degree from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Along with her experience in Campus Living, she has a background in Greek life, health education, and student leadership programs. Originally from Baltimore, MD, Annika enjoys traveling, cooking, and going to concerts!
Matt started at ECU in the summer of 2020, having spent more than 6 years as a full-time student affairs educator in the upper Midwest. Matt has served in roles of being a student Resident Advisor, Hall Director and Residential Life Area Coordinator. Originally from the Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minnesota area, he enjoys spending time with his family, creating ceramics, watching sports, and participating in Greenville CrossFit! You will often see him on campus biking to meetings or walking his golden retriever, Marlowe.
College Hill Suites
Toni started with us in the Spring of 2023. Toni started working in Student Affairs at Chowan University, where they also earned a Masters in Organizational Leadership. Toni also spent over 8 years serving in the US Army. Toni has over four years of Student Affairs experience and enjoys being there for their residents in any way they can. In their spare time, Toni enjoys spending time with their dog and watching Anime.
Cotten, Jarvis, and Garrett Halls
Josh, a Midwest native from small-town Iowa, joined Campus Living in the summer of 2021 after earning his master’s degree from the University of Florida. Prior to coming to ECU, Josh worked with Housing, Fraternity & Sorority Life, and Student Programming. Josh’s passions are Student Organizations, Student Programming, and Residence Life. He enjoys long walks on the beach, going to the movies, playing games, and snuggling with his cats Wiggles and Loki.
Before coming to ECU, Daniel served in capacities including being a student Resident Assistant, Graduate Hall Coordinator, and has even worked for a healthcare IT company. Originally from Overland Park, Kansas, Daniel enjoys spending time outside, reading, and watching his favorite soccer team, AS Roma.
Carey started at ECU in the summer of 2022, after spending the previous year in residence life. He received his bachelor’s degree right here at ECU in 2019 and graduated with a master’s from Oakland University in 2021. Carey is passionate about civic engagement, diversity & inclusion, and student-focused community engagement. Outside of work, Carey loves Magic: The Gathering, amateur meteorology, and spending time with his wife and cat. You can often find him building LEGOs, hanging out with students on campus, or planning awesome events with his hall staff!
Sarah plans to create a welcoming and engaging community for not only the residents of Jones Hall, but the RA’s as well. Sarah received both her bachelor’s and master’s degree from the University of Florida in health education. During her time at UF, she served as an RA and Graduate Assistant in residence life. Sarah grew up in St. Petersburg, FL. Outside of work, she enjoys being outside, going to the beach, hanging out with her friends and family, traveling to new places, and shopping!
Scott Hall and Legacy Hall
Matt started at East Carolina University in the Fall of 2021. He has lived in North Carolina for almost his entire life, and views North Carolina as home. Matt’s passion areas include Housing and Residence Life, Fraternity and Sorority Life, First Generation College Students, Business Operations, and Orientation Programs. Matt enjoys travelling, spending time with friends and family, Broadway, and going to concerts. You will often see Matt wandering around campus with students and student leaders, enjoying a cup of coffee, and having fun conversation.
Tyler Hall and Legacy Hall

Originally from Rockford, Illinois Juan is enjoy spending quality time with friends, exploring new restaurants in town and participating with the athletes of Greenville’s CrossFit Tier 1. You can often find Juan having Lunch with students and other coordinators in Todd Dining Hall. Juan is a friendly and genuine individual, come up and say HI!
Jessie completed a BS in Biology from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and a MEd in Higher Education Administration from Texas Tech University. Her passion areas include academic initiatives, addressing food insecurity, and creating a meaningful on-campus experience for residents. When not at work, she enjoys watching reality tv, crafting, and traveling. You will often see Jessie walking around campus with her golden retriever, Doug, or in Starbucks!
Mercedes started at ECU during the summer of 2022, having spent the past two years in residence life. She received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Central Florida in her hometown of Orlando, FL, and earned her master’s degree from the State University of New York at Plattsburgh. She has lived in Florida, New York, and Virginia, but is proud to be a Pirate and call ECU her home. She is passionate about belonging and mattering, helping students achieve their academic goals, and providing residents with the best campus experience possible. Outside of work, she enjoys reading, cooking, crafting, gaming, and spending time with her partner and cats.

Karen joined Campus Living in 2016 and has served in the role of Senior Neighborhood Service Office Manager since summer of 2020. She previously worked with Pitt County Schools as a data manager at Grifton and Hope Middle School. Karen grew up in New Jersey, but has loved calling North Carolina home for over 30 years. In her spare time, you can usually catch Karen outside gardening or planning her next trip with her husband!

Darlene has nearly 25 years of experience working with ECU. She calls ECU her home away from home and is a proud ECU Pirate at heart! She has served in many roles including Housekeeping Lead, Administrative Support Associate, to now the manager of our West End/Central NSO. She also has experience in many departments within Student Affairs including Students Activities and Organizations, Ledonia Wright Cultural Center, ECU Intergenerational Community Center and now Campus Living. Campus Living has given her the opportunity to explore and learn the students’ needs in the housing environment. She is a proud retired Army Veteran with 25 years of service. She loves family time, community service, traveling, and cooking soul food. Her motto: Let’s get it done!
Facility Maintenance Supervisor
Robert supervises the Campus Living Facility Teams to directly address facility concerns our students and staff. In the hopes to bridge any anxiety of being new to campus and away from home, his team strives to be approachable for the needs of the students and staff. This goes hand in hand with one of his sayings, “We can fix anything if we know about it”. His staff and himself are personally involved in our facilities daily, so students and staff have a familiarity and comfort with who is working on their issues, in the hopes of giving Pirates a more relaxed atmosphere while away from home. After 28 years of working at Campus Living, this approach has produced wonderful results. Away from campus, he enjoys family time, outdoor activities and personal projects.
Bryan has been with ECU since October 2005 with the Lockshop. As the Locksmith Supervisor he work with the Locksmiths and the Access Control Coordinator to make sure all the students and staff live and work in a safe and secure environment. In his spare time he loves to hunt, fish and spend time traveling with family.
