Jones Hall Drop Off and Move-In

Primary Move-In Shifts

  • Thursday, August 15, 9 am – 4 pm, Floors 1 and 3
  • Friday, August 16, 9 am – 4 pm, Floors 2 and 4

Main Check-In @ Minges Coliseum “Hall of Fame”– based on hall/floor schedule (note times) above.  These Move-In windows help us maximize parking availability, elevator use (if applicable) and volunteer placement.

At Minges Coliseum- Students will get their key and are given a vehicle Move-In pass for each vehicle they have. Then, vehicles will move to their residence hall Move-In queue, located in front of Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium.  Queued vehicles will be sent to your Move-In area near your residence hall when parking spaces are open. Please do not go directly to your hall without lining up your vehicles for a brief wait. As soon as you unload your vehicles, you will move them to the remote parking areas.  There are directions on the back of your move-in pass. Please label all your boxes/items clearly, use boxes or containers whenever possible, and be aware that passenger use of elevators during these times may be limited.

NOTE: This is the primary schedule. Students enrolled in Living Learning Communities and other programs which require early move-in should follow the instructions and schedule they receive via email from their program.

After Hours & Weekend Move-In @ Neighborhood Services Offices

If you cannot move-in during your designated date and time, please utilize the after-hours and weekend options below.

  • Thursday, 7pm – 10pm
  • Friday, 7 pm – 10 pm
  • Saturday, 9 am – 10 pm
  • Sunday, 9 am – 10 pm (recommended for returning students only)

Students will check-in for their room key at the Neighborhood Service Office (NSO). For Central/West Residence Halls, use the West End NSO at the West End Dining Hall and for College Hill Halls, use the College Hill NSO at Ballard East.

There may be Limited Parking/Directional Support during these periods.

Drop-Off Option 2024

Students may choose to participate in Drop-Off between August 1st – 3rd where you can bring your belongings, set up your room for Fall and return home until classes start. This is optional!

We encourage students and families that are able, to consider the Drop-Off option, allowing the Move-In period to be more manageable for Out of State students and others that are not able to drop off in advance.

Students who wish to take advantage of Drop-Off will need to use the link that will be sent to students in their assignment email to sign-up for one time slot for your assigned Hall. There is a 2-hour limit, so keep this in mind as you consider which day/time slot will best fit your schedule.

The Drop-Off option is not available for College Hill Suites because this hall is being used for camps.

Arrival for Classes for those Who Used the Drop-Off Option

Students who utilize the Drop-Off option will return to campus after 3pm on Friday, August 16, or any time on August 17 and 18. You do NOT need to check in at Minges Coliseum upon your return if you already have your key from Drop-Off! Returning during this window is not to be another move-in period. Please use the Drop-Off period to set up your room before classes. After unloading any remaining belongings, please remove vehicles from around the residence halls to your assigned parking area.

We know you are excited to be setting up your new college home!

Start by reviewing our What to Bring/What Not to Bring page.

Remember we provide the following, and the items need to stay in the room

  • Microwave and minifridge
  • Central Air conditioning/ Heat
  • Desk w/drawers, chairs, and dressers
  • Closet space/wardrobe
  • Bunkable twin extra-long beds that can also be Lofted as an option (Loft Company)
  • If you are assigned a single room that is normally a double room, we do not remove furniture

Label your boxes, bins and large items with your name, Banner ID, and room assignment- just in case you get separated from your items during the move-in process.

Outlets may be limited so we recommend power strips with a switch/fuse.  You can also choose to bring a surge protector for computers and electronics, except in Ballard, Scott, Clement, White, and Greene Halls, where surge protectors can interfere with built in surge protection in the hall.

We recommend Command Strips only on concrete or cinder block walls due to past wall damage.  On drywall walls we recommend small tacks or removable poster tape for hanging items on the wall.  Beyond a few small holes in walls, students will be responsible for wall damage at the end of the year.  Jones Hall has mostly cinder block walls.

Tips:

  • Coordinate with your new roommate. No need to bring two of everything.
  • We will have some Move-In carts and dollies available during Move-In, but you don’t have to look for one if you bring your own for the day.
  • When in doubt leave it at home! Your family can always bring it to campus when they visit.
  • Remember to make sure there is room for YOU in your room!
