LGBTQIA Housing
Special Housing Consideration
We are committed to providing a safe and comfortable living environment for all students, including gender diverse. Students requesting special housing consideration for living in the residence halls at ECU should complete the form below:
Special Housing Consideration Form – Gender Identity & Expression *
* Students requesting accommodation for a disability should contact the ECU Department for Disability Support Services
All requests are kept confidential and reviewed by ECU Campus Living’s Director of Housing Operations with guidance and support from Dr. Jesse R. Peel Center. These offices will work collaboratively to determine if, and how, to best meet the needs of each student.
General Information
We are committed to working with each student requesting special consideration to find the best accommodations possible. It is important to request your accommodations as soon as possible while the widest range of options are still available.
Campus Living assignment decisions for gender diverse students are guided by the following values:
- Respect of the student’s gender identity and/or expression and their desired housing situation
- Enhancing the student’s opportunity for success at East Carolina University by finding the best match between the student’s needs and the available options
- We must also remain compliant with UNC System policy 700.8.1
First-Year Students and Transfer Students
Requests from first-year students and transfer students received before April 1 for the fall semester and December 1 for the spring semester will receive priority consideration. Please note that transfer students are not guaranteed on-campus housing and acceptance of a request does not guarantee housing for a transfer student.
Continuing Students
Continuing students must renew their request on an annual basis. Requests received by February 1 will receive priority consideration. Continuing students who wish to receive continued accommodations must submit an application for housing and an accommodation request by the application deadline in order to be considered for continued accommodations on campus.
